Scrapbooking Tips: "Besides loving to scrapbook in general, there are a few things I just adore within this hobby. The first one is all the cool techniques out there. Just check out YouTube and you'll find tons of 'how to' videos for help you on your creative journey

Another cool thing is that many of the pretty embellishments we buy also come packaged in pretty ways that we can easily recycle into our layouts. Prima's packaging is a great example. I've used several of their nicely decorated cardboard inserts for journaling cards and tags.

I also make it a point to recycle the plastics, which aren't so environmentally friendly. I have used plastic packaging to house memorabilia, such as our daughter's first curly lock of hair and Thomas the Train tickets. I have a bunch of these in a cardboard photo box. These are just a few ways we can help our environment, while still scrapping our hearts out. After all, us traditional scrappers use tons of paper every year and throw away just as much packaging.

Another quick tip for you! I keep a brown paper grocery bag under my work area to put any paper or cardboard scraps. I also hang a small plastic bag (like from Target) from my work area to throw away any hard garbage or other plastic waste that I don't use. I hope my eco-friendly tips inspire you to save some of that packaging from ending up in your local landfill and recycle it into your layouts! I'd love to see what you come up with. Stop by my blog let me know!"

About: Hi there! I’m Jody Spiegelhoff, A.K.A. SpiegelMom, and so happy to by a guest on Danielle's awesome blog!  What can I say, I love to scrapbook! I started out stamping and making cards in 2003, but my obsession for all things scrappy quickly grew and now has its own scrappy corner in our home. My favorite scrapbook models include our five daughters and my wonderful husband. Yes that number is correct, FIVE daughters age’s 1 month to 13 years old. As you can imagine, I have lots of inspiration.

Scrapbooking Tip: "What can I reuse? Sometimes looking at things in a different light will help you make something no one else would have thought about. And always look to others for inspiration."

About: Thirty something SAHM, wife, crafter - After ten years in one office and many medical issues, I have been able to stay at home and craft. I have my ups and downs where I will loose my mojo, but I have been on the upswing for awhile now. I love to talk to others and see what they are crafting and learn how to make new things. I feel I am more of a self taught artist and if someone doesn't care for my art that is just fine, I like my work. Along the way, I have met some wonderful people and I am glad we have something in common.

Scrapbooking Tip: "First, I only print the pictures I’m going to put in a layout. I plan ahead about 5-10 layouts. Since I use a digital camera, I write down the image numbers of the photos I’m going to use and send those to be printed. This helps me to use only what I need and not have a ton of extra pictures laying around. This is also helpful for crops because I have what I want to get done ready and I can quickly assemble to pages.

My second tip is to repurpose old items...shoe boxes can be made into memory boxes. Just cover them with paper and Mod Podge.  Cardboard scraps can be used for album covers."

About: My name is Mariah and I’ve been a scrapbooker for about nine years. I’m married to my high school sweetheart. We have three rambunctious boys ages 4, 6 and 8. I became obsessed with scrapbooking after my first son was born. I also dabble in photography and started a side business about a year ago.

ROSANN

Also Known As: Rosann Santos-Elliott

Social: Facebook - Twitter

Scrapbooking Tip: "Two things that I love to use in my scrapbooking are ribbons and buttons and they can come from things that are easily recyclable.

Ribbon - Do you ever buy a pack of wash towels from the big box stores? Well they are packaged like a present, with a ribbon tied around them. It's usually a white ribbon and easily re-colored with mist, markers or paint. You can even write on them for a little creative journaling.

Buttons - Every blouse, pair of slacks, coat, etc. we buy comes with spare buttons. Do you ever use them on the actual clothing? I know I don't. They go right on my scrapbooking pages, cards and mini-books."

About: My name is Rosann Santos-Elliott and I live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband Ron and son Ethan. By day, I work as a higher education administrator in the suburbs of NYC. By night, I make cards, 12x12 layouts and mini-books to relax.

Though I have only been scrapbooking regularly since I got a scrapbook for my baby shower four years ago, I have always been a scrapbooker at heart - the photographer and historian of my family. Scrapbooking has allowed me to become a better photographer and writer.

If it were practical, I'd quit my job and scrapbook all day. For now I have to settle for being a Memory Works Consultant during my "free" time.

Scrapbooking Tip: "If you collect buttons, don't overlook saving those little baggies that come attached to sweaters, blouses and skirts! They're a great way to add to your stash!

Save the bubble wrap from packaging. It's a great way to add dimension to your layouts. Cut out some shapes (hearts, circles, etc.) and add a little pop to your projects!"

About: I have been scrapbooking for about two years now, but I've been into photography for about fifteen years. So, I have plenty of pictures to scrap! I work full time as a Sales Assistant for an HVAC Material Supplier. I'm married to the love of my life and we have one black cat. Other crafts that I enjoy are cardmaking, paper crafting and home decor projects. I've been a Memory Works Independent Scrapbook Consultant since May 2011.

Scrapbooker Saturday: Irit

IRIT

Also Known As: Irit Shalom

Social: Facebook

Scrapbooking Tip: "Don't throw away things that can be recycled or altered! It can be  an old packaging - I do alter dental supply boxes and you can see some of those alterations on my blog. And the Kraft paper on the back of medical subscription pads are fantastic to make cards. Alter old candles, even half used, granny's fan, old records and discs. Keep old and broken jewelry pieces and add them as your embellishments on your projects. Don't throw away any outfits before you cut all great lace, ribbons, buttons, pockets or even fabric. Old fabric is just perfect for die cutting.

And the last one: recycle your own crafts. After many years, some of our old crafts we keep look very beginner's level. So re-do them! Keep the photos, good embellishments or anything you really like and make another, new art piece, with them. Use the old paper left as your scraps for cards, stamping, misting or die cutting. Just remember to have a good answer when your family members think your are a trash keeper. Show them that this trash entered you into some great design teams as it was with me."

About: My name is Irit and I am from sunny Israel. In my "real life" I am a dentist, but for the last four years I do it as a part-time job, because I need some extra time for my scrapping and crafting addiction and I  have a lot of fun doing something else after 25 years of dentistry. I have been married for 28 years to a retired high police officer, who is the full-time family cook these days. I am a mom to four grown-ups: two sons and twin daughters. The empty nest is probably the main reason for my obsession for crafting - I finally have some time for myself.

I need to say that I have been totally addicted to crafting since I was a little girl. For many years it was polymer clay and jewelry making, but after I saw a scrapbook layout for the first time in my life (only five years ago during my visit to USA), I  finally understood that I am in love with paper. Today I mostly scrap and do altered art. I have been a design team member for about 9-10 challenge blogs and was a guest designer on a lot of others during the last year.

Right now, I  am a permanent designer for a UK chipboard company named Tando creative, Best Creation, Pretty Little Studio, Robin's Nest and Epiphany Crafts. I was published in print in Israel several times and in every possible web magazine during the last year. Last, but not least, my other addiction is...folk dancing. So if I am not in my crafting room- I am probably dancing!

RENEE

Also known as:  Renee Joy

Blog:  Charms Buttons & Bows

Social:  Twitter

Scrapbooking Tip:  "I love to reuse all kinds of goodies to store my scrapbooking supplies. For example, when we were done eating the yummy nuts inside of a plastic container, it then became the home for my Prima flowers, after being washed out of course, wink! Oh, another example is our lovely scented Yankee candle....when the scent was gone, I just had to find a good use for it. I did not have to think very long before I thought of my ribbon.

Last but not least, is my love for chipboard. Cereal boxes are awesome for chipboard. Whoops, I have to be careful not become a hoarder so, of course, any finished cereal boxes go directly into the recycle bin.  Can you tell that I love to scrapbook?!?!"

About:  Renee is a teacher in both secular studies and scrapbooking. She began scrapbooking 14 years ago. She recalls creating her very first album that was a gift for a co-worker. With the use of 1 hour processing and staying up late, the gift was complete. Renee has not stopped scrapping since. She loves to share her love for her favorite hobby by teaching scrapbooking to adults and children at a scrapbook store in her area.

Scrapbooking Tip: "Always keep a "kit" of scrapbook supplies ready to go. There is no other single tip that can save you so much time in the long run. Whether you scrap by yourself or travel from crop to crop - having coordinated supplies ready provides a starting point of inspiration and makes you more efficient because you spend less time looking and more time working. Besides, mixing supplies you have on hand is fun in itself and gives new life to older outdated items (more eco-friendly than discarding them in favor of new). Where do you start - just go to your stash and pick one item that inspires you - then pull other items that will coordinate. It's easy peasy - give it a try!"

About: I am S, that's shorthand for Susanne, a stay-at-home mom with a supportive husband and two lovable children, one in her teens and one in his twenties. I am spoiled to have a little studio full of scrapbook supplies – and I do mean full. Life is good in my quiet, quirky, quaint little corner of the world - which happens to be Indiana. My slightly eclectic scrapbooking style is pretty much what you would expect from a Midwest gal. I think scrapbooking is all about the fun of doing it and sharing it. Hopefully everyone can see how my layouts reflect that life is good, very good – in fact!

NATALIE

Scrapbooking Tip: "Since Danielle is kind enough to post about me on her blog, I'll share an eco-friendly tip!  Reuse your scrap paper! Any paper that's only printed on one side in my house doesn't go to the recycle bin - it goes back in the printer. I keep a stack and use it as scratch paper to sketch new designs, print draft headlines, so I can figure out what size I need and to print draft photos, so I can make design decisions before having photos printed. Have cardstock or paper in colors that you don't use anymore? I keep mine on hand to make template patterns for layouts!"

About: Hi there! My name is Natalie and I write about scrapbooking over at Almost Never Clever. You can follow me as I work on scrapbook layouts, craft projects and also get good tips and ideas. I’m not a “normal” scrapbooker (whatever that is!). I don’t use a 12x12 album and I rarely use patterned paper and embellishments. My layouts center around the pictures and tons of memorabilia that I save. Paper and adornments are more like window dressing to me. I like to think of this as a classic way of scrapbooking, kind of like what you would see if your grandmother had a scrapbook, but updated!

STEPHANIE

Also Known As: Stephanie Medley-Rath

Blog: Scrapworthy Lives

Social: Facebook - Twitter - Google+ - Pinterest

Scrapbooking Tip: "Use your stash. I began a minimalist scrapbooking challenge last April. I have challenged myself to use my stash and limit my scrapbooking purchases. I already own quite a bit of scrapbooking supplies, so shopping my stash has been fairly easy. The hard part is not shopping for scrapbook supplies.

Even though it is a challenge, I feel I am a much better scrapbook shopper today. I know what I have on hand so I know better what to buy to round out my stash. I am scrapbooking more because I don't have to spend time putting new purchases away. It is also a lot of fun to pull out several-year old pieces of pattern paper and finally use them. Minimalist scrapbooking has the added bonus of saving both money and the environment. It definitely fits in with eco-scrapbooking."

About: Stephanie Medley-Rath is a scrapbooker and sociologist. She studied scrapbookers for her dissertation research and blogs about her study at Scrapworthy Lives. She is writing her first e-book about market research for the scrapbook industry and hopes to make it available in September. She also teaches sociology at her local community college and blogs about sociology at a still unnamed site.

Scrapbooker Saturday: Zaira

ZAIRA

Also Known As: Zaira Ivette Sierra

Blog: HacerScrapbooks.com (The blog is in Spanish, but has a translation tool!)

Scrapbooking Tip: "To me, scrapbooking is not about getting the latest tool or mastering the hottest techniques. Scrapbooking is about seizing the opportunity of publishing a book about the things that matter the most to you, either for your own pleasure or as a heirloom for the next generations. Tell your story in photos and words, not in trends and supplies hoarding. Give yourself the chance to actually create such a beautiful gift for yourself and others: the gift of not being forgotten."

About: Zaira had always been interested in documenting events and moments of life, but she formally went into modern scrapbooking in 2000, while trying to finish her degree in visual communication (she actually did). She taught scrapbooking classes for seven years back in her native Puerto Rico and wrote her first scrapbooking article in 2002. In 2006, Zaira started her first scrapbooking blog, Scrapbook Latino, that evolved to become the current Hacer Scrapbooks. ("Hacer" is Spanish for "to make".) In 2010, she wrote her very first scrapbooking e-booklet for the Spanish speaking market. Zaira now lives in Florida, USA.
