Scrapbooking Halloween: Good vs. Evil

Happy Halloween! I've seen a crazy amount of costumes this year. Some make me smile, while others make me think "what the...?" And when it comes to my girls, one is usually evil, while the other sticks with the cute costumes. Yet, no matter what they chose, my girls make me smile:

To show this battle of good vs. evil, I meshed two scrapbook layouts together into one and dug into my paper scrap bin once again. Bright, happy colors are on the left (the good side) with darker colors on the other (evil) side.

 

At least the evil in this photo is trying to be good by giving the peace sign ;) Gotta love the kiddos! Hope your night isn't too spooky! ~Danielle

A Living Dead Doll's Bloody Scrapbook Layout

It's the week of Halloween, a time for candy, spooks and bloody scrapbook layouts...

Paper scraps, old red ribbon, a mix of alphas, plus a scary doll and drips of blood (red acrylic paint) make up this scrapbook layout on 8.5 x 11 FSC-certified cardstock.

I wanted to mimic the Living Dead Doll's dress and punched holes in the cardstock. Then I looped ribbon through the holes and tied a bow. What a fun scrapbook page to make!

A Build-A-Bear doppelganger says boo! Say what? 

As our sweet furry cat relaxed on the dining room floor, she had no idea what was coming. My daughter brought home a new Build-A-Bear that looked almost like our cat. I snapped photos as the doppelganger crept closer and closer and finally, our cat turned around for the shock of her life!

This layout features paper scraps from previous projects. I just love creating the banner effect with my leftover scraps.

What can I upcycle today? That's the first question I ask myself when starting a new craft project. If you're reading this right now, I know you often ask yourself that very same question.

A Halloween mini-book + googly-eyed fingernails

Halloween is here and I love this day! In fact, I'd rather decorate for Halloween than Christmas and we usually end up taking the decorations down after my oldest daughter's November birthday. 

We've picked and carved our pumpkins (and painted/glittered two small ones), toasted pumpkin seeds, drank apple cider, ate caramel apples, planned costumes, made a newspaper leaf wreath, painted papier mache masks, stuffed treat bags, decorated fingernails with googly eyes:

And I finally finished my Halloween mini-book that I started last fall at a Creative Memories crop (shhh, don't tell the MemoryWorks folks). I was given cut cardboard leftover from scrapbook paper kits, a Creative Memories Halloween-themed kit and the ladies kindly binded the book for me. It's been sitting in my scrap cabinet with my 2010 Halloween photos ever since.

I also purchased K&Company Halloween diecuts on clearance last year and they went perfectly with the Creative Memories kit, along with the black glittered Thickers that I used on the front cover. (I used Glue Dots® to put everything together.)

The "2010" Thickers were a perfect match for the K&Company Halloween diecuts.

My oldest daughter loves to dress up scary!

Pumpkin carving is always a treat (and creepy if you don't like pumpkin guts).

Photo Tip: Turn off the lights and your camera flash for the perfect jack-o-lantern photo.

Although the items I used are from my regular scrapbooking stash (I have a separate eco-friendly scrapbooking supply box), I didn't buy anything new for this project and the repurposed cardboard from 12x12 kits is definitely ecoscrapbooking. 

Now it's time for parties, trick-or-treating and more Halloween photos that will lead to even more scrapbooking...until next year, my spooky friends! Hahahahaha (that was an evil laugh). Enjoy your day!

Turn a photo collage into a Halloween centerpiece

Have you decorated your pumpkins yet? It's October and there are 29 days until Halloween! My family usually waits until the end of the month to carve our pumpkins and last year we not only did that, but I also incorporated photos, twine and nails into the mix.

I spotted a similar pumpkin in Camille Dawn's post, Pumpkin Photo Centerpiece Holds Your Autumn Memories, which was featured on the AlphaMom blog. It's not often that I get inspired to change up my pumpkin carving routine, but when I checked out the post, I knew I wanted to hammer some nails into a pumpkin and decorate it with twine and photographs. Seriously, this was truly cool and unique and I had to do it.

Since I didn't want to use original photos on the pumpkin, I created a photo collage in Picasa and printed it off onto recycled cardstock. Here's the collage before I trimmed the photos:
