Buttons Galore & More Blog Hop

Welcome to the first-ever Glue Dots blog hop! We're celebrating Father's Day and Graduation with projects featuring buttons from Buttons Galore!


As the EcoScrapbooker, I enjoy hunting for supplies from around the home and see how I can reuse them in my craft projects. Today's graduation-themed project is no different as I utilized an old photo mat, an empty Glue Dots box and the roll that goes with it!

Let's check out my upcycled graduation-themed photo frame:


Supplies:

photo mat
Glue Dots® (Glue Lines, Mini, Craft)
graduation-themed buttons (Buttons Galore)
thin cardboard
empty Glue Dots box and roll
black acrylic paint


1. Paint two coats of acrylic paint on the Glue Dots cardboard roll, allowing drying time in between coats. Set aside.

2. Adhere Glue Dots Glue Lines® around all edges of cardboard except the top and attach to the back of photo mat. Insert photo.



3. Cut the back of the empty Glue Dots box and attach to back of cardboard on the photo mat.



4. Use a Craft Glue Dot® to adhere a half dollar to the bottom right side of photo mat to balance the frame for the next step.



5. Flip the frame over and attach the painted Glue Dots roll to the bottom right side using Mini Glue Dots®.



6. Adhere the Buttons Galore graduation-themed buttons to the inside and outside of the roll with Mini Glue Dots®.




The upcycled photo frame is now ready to hang or give as a graduation gift!

And since we're also celebrating Father's Day, I'd like to share a dad-themed scrapbook layout I made using more Glue Dots® and buttons from Buttons Galore:

"Dad & I" 8x10 Scrapbook Layout

Instead of cardstock as the base of this layout, I "greened" it up and used double-sided cardboard and chose the white side over the plain kraft cardboard. I added colorful Basic Grey cardstock, distressed the edges with my Distrezz-It-All and painted them black before adding the final details.




The photo on the layout is memory-filled from 1983 and features my dad, someone I hold dear to my heart right now after his heart attack on Earth Day. He's doing better now and I'm thankful to be able to celebrate another Father's Day with him. This page was like scrapbook therapy for me and I'm happy to share it with you.

Layout supplies: cardboard, cardstock (Basic Grey, DCWV), Glue Dots® (Mini, Ultra Thin), buttons (Buttons Galore), thread (Jillibean Soup), gems (CTMH), star paper clip, Distrezz-It-All, black acrylic paint, letter stickers (American Crafts Thickers). 12 Upcycled Crafts for Every Month of the Year

What can I upcycle today? That's the first question I ask myself when starting a new craft project. If you're reading this right now, I know you often ask yourself that very same question.

Over the past year or so, I've meshed together recycling and crafting. The result: an arsenal of upcycled crafts for every month of the year.

Each project is made from items that often end up in the trash or recycling bin. All of them are craft tutorials I created during my time as a Glue Dots designer and most are crafts for children or ones they can make too.













When I first joined the Glue Dots design team in 2010, I was still trying to find my niche amongst the many crafty and brilliant bloggers I've had the pleasure to discover. Tutorial: Father's Day Cassette Tape Card

Normally, I go for the super fast and simple crafts. Then there are times when I get an idea in my head and have an end point in mind, but not exactly sure how I'm going to get there.

This Father's Day cassette tape card was one of those ideas and I had loads of fun making it:

Even though we don't have a workable cassette player easily accessible, I had to say goodbye to my long-forgotten-from-the-80s-hair-band KIX single "Don't Close Your Eyes" and tore out the cassette's ribbon in the name of love (and you'll see why soon).


This is how I made it:

Supplies:

Glue Dots© (Pop Up, Ultra-Thin, Micro)
old cassette tape and case
white & yellow cardstock (DCWV)
red decorative cardstock (Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer)
diecuts (Creative Imaginations "Super Hero")
hole punches
letter stickers (Cosmo Cricket)
black pen
word processor


1. Cut and score white cardstock according to cassette card panel template: tail 1", spine .5", front cover 2.5625", 1 extra panel 2.5", 2nd extra panel 2.4375", width 4". (Note: I didn't download the template, but used approximate measurements.)

2. Decorate the outside of the card with diecuts, letter stickers, doodled children and strips of text made from a word processor. Attach to the card using Ultra-Thin and Micro Glue Dots©. Outline the elements with black pen if desired. Set aside.

3. Create a paper cassette tape using the red and white cardstock, hole punches, star diecuts and black pen. Use an old cassette tape as a guide. Adhere all the elements together using Ultra-Thin Glue Dots© and add dimension to the bottom piece of cassette using Pop Up Glue Dots©. Set aside.

4. Remove the ribbon from the cassette tape and cut two strips. Attach both to the inside of the card (opposite side of the front cover) and take the strips down to the bottom panel. Form the inside strip into the word "love" using Micro Glue Dots© as you go along. Repeat with the outside strip to make the word "you".


5. Attach the paper cassette tape to the top panel with Ultra-Thin Glue Dots©. Decorate with additional star diecuts. Fold and insert into cassette case.

I was so pleased with myself after making the card that I couldn't wait until Father's Day to show my husband. Now, my oldest daughter wants a card like this one too and she pointed out that I didn't put glasses on her doodled self. Oh boy!...or maybe it should be, Oh girl! ~Danielle
