Road Trip: Memories Scrapbooking Expo & Jillibean's

On March 23, my mother-in-law and I traveled to Columbus for my Recycled Scrapbooking class at the Memories Scrapbooking Expo. I had a decent sized class and shared my knowledge about eco-friendly scrapbooking, plus Tim Holtz was at the Expo:

I must confess, I don't swoon over THE Tim Holtz and only own one of his many products, Distress Ink, which I rarely use. However, I spotted him at the Expo surrounded by a crowd of ladies, snapped a photo of him and went on my merry way.

Besides my class, the highlight of the day was after the Expo. We stopped at Jillibean's new store in Marysville for the warehouse sale (ended Sunday). I didn't purchase anything at the Expo since I knew this was on the agenda. Before I show you my goodies, take a look at all the eye-candy in this vintage-inspired shop:

If I were to ever own a scrapbooking store, I would definitely model it after Jillibean's! Boy, was I impressed and look forward to visiting the shop again.

So...what did I buy? I kept my purchases within the warehouse sale area and spent less than $25 on all of this:

I'm saving the pack on the far left for another scrapbooking class. Yes, even with the headset I had to wear (I felt like a dork), I enjoyed being offline and teaching my fellow scrapbookers something new about scrapbooking and plan to do it again in the future. ~Danielle

Poll: What is Your Favorite "Green" Scrapbook Company?

Do you have a favorite scrapbook company? I have a few top choices I tend to buy more than others. Why? As the EcoScrapbooker, I give preference to companies using recycled paper, FSC-certified cardstock and vegetable-based inks. 

Today, I'd like to try something new and find out which eco-friendly companies you prefer... What is your favorite "green" scrapbook company?

Attention: Scrapbooking Manufacturers! Tell me you're green!

As a MemoryWorks Consultant and Media Team Member, it's my responsibility to promote top scrapbooking companies, but the majority of them are not making eco-friendly products. I've been struggling to justify my green scrapbooker goals with being a consultant and even considered quitting MemoryWorks altogether.

Then I did my research.

And then I researched a little more.

And then I researched even more as I wrote this post (and wondered why I have to dig for this information.)

MemoryWorks offers scrapbooking products by several eco-friendly companies, but there is no place on their website which adds that little piece of information.

Actually, if you browse most online scrapbook stores, it's not likely you will find any information that a scrapbooking manufacturer is using vegetable-based inks or FSC-Certified paper unless the store has a section dedicated to recycled paper or eco-friendly supplies.

Who are the earth-loving companies found in the MemoryWorks catalog and website?

Did I miss any?

Note: I didn't include K&Company on this list since MemoryWorks only offers the Smash products. K&Company does have products that are green, like Remake and their reusable packaging.

Do I feel better about being a MemoryWorks Consultant and a wanna-be green scrapbooker? Sure do! But there is still plenty of work that needs to be done.

9 scrapbooking manufacturers that love the earth

Where in the world can I find eco-friendly scrapbooking supplies? That's the question I asked myself over a year ago when I went on a mission to find scrapbooking manufacturers that offer alternative choices such as FSC-certified paper, handmade or recycled paper and organic inks.

Guess what? I found nine top scrapbooking companies that design and make green supplies for our scrapbooks. (There are other earth-loving companies that I will focus on in a future blog post.)

Here's what they had to say:

Paper Trunk

Paper Trunk was established in the summer of 2007 as one of the leading manufacturers of recycled scrapbook papers. Always striving to research and provide products, packaging, and resources that are Earth friendly...without compromising on quality.

Piggy Tales

We were one of the first companies to offer a "green" line of 12x12 scrapbook paper. It is amazing quality, and beautiful design - you will NOT be disappointed.

It's fascinating to read the statements by these eco-friendly scrapbooking companies. I could have just listed the names, but what fun is that? I like to research and get actual proof that these companies are green.
