Welcome to the first-ever Glue Dots blog hop! We're celebrating Father's Day and Graduation with projects featuring buttons from Buttons Galore!

As the EcoScrapbooker, I enjoy hunting for supplies from around the home and see how I can reuse them in my craft projects. Today's graduation-themed project is no different as I utilized an old photo mat, an empty Glue Dots box and the roll that goes with it!

Let's check out my upcycled graduation-themed photo frame:

Supplies:

photo mat

Glue Dots® (Glue Lines, Mini, Craft)

graduation-themed buttons (Buttons Galore)

thin cardboard

empty Glue Dots box and roll

black acrylic paint

1. Paint two coats of acrylic paint on the Glue Dots cardboard roll, allowing drying time in between coats. Set aside.

2. Adhere Glue Dots Glue Lines® around all edges of cardboard except the top and attach to the back of photo mat. Insert photo.

3. Cut the back of the empty Glue Dots box and attach to back of cardboard on the photo mat.

4. Use a Craft Glue Dot® to adhere a half dollar to the bottom right side of photo mat to balance the frame for the next step.

5. Flip the frame over and attach the painted Glue Dots roll to the bottom right side using Mini Glue Dots®.

6. Adhere the Buttons Galore graduation-themed buttons to the inside and outside of the roll with Mini Glue Dots®.

The upcycled photo frame is now ready to hang or give as a graduation gift!

And since we're also celebrating Father's Day, I'd like to share a dad-themed scrapbook layout I made using more Glue Dots® and buttons from Buttons Galore:

"Dad & I" 8x10 Scrapbook Layout

Instead of cardstock as the base of this layout, I "greened" it up and used double-sided cardboard and chose the white side over the plain kraft cardboard. I added colorful Basic Grey cardstock, distressed the edges with my Distrezz-It-All and painted them black before adding the final details.

The photo on the layout is memory-filled from 1983 and features my dad, someone I hold dear to my heart right now after his heart attack on Earth Day. He's doing better now and I'm thankful to be able to celebrate another Father's Day with him. This page was like scrapbook therapy for me and I'm happy to share it with you.

Tutorial: Panda Bear Birthday Party Invitations

My baby is turning 5-years-old and she wants a panda-themed birthday party. I was happy to oblige, but soon found out that panda parties are not all the rage! What did I do? Surprise, surprise... I made my own panda birthday invitations:

DIY Panda Bear Birthday Party Invitations

Supplies:

Glue Dots® (Ultra Thin, Mini, Pop Up)

FSC-certified cardstock (kraft, white, black)

blank index cards

pink ribbon

googly eyes

invitation stamp (Stampendous)

black ink (StazOn)

punches (circle, heart)

cardboard

Distrezz-It-All

black paint pen

pens (black, pink)

Directions are for 12 panda invitations.

1. Cut 12 5x7 pieces of kraft cardstock and distress edges of entire stack together with a Distrezz-It-All.

2. Stamp blank index cards with the invitation stamp and black ink.

3. Punch 24 hearts for panda eyes and 36 circles for ears and paws. Cut each circle in half.

4. Draw the shape of a panda face onto cardboard, cut out and use it to create 12 faces on white cardstock.

5. Make 12 tiny pink bows using ribbon, a fork and this bow tutorial on Pinterest.

6. Ink the edges of the blank panda faces and invitation index cards using black ink.

7. Draw and color in a pink nose in the center of each panda face. Outline the nose with a black pen and create and mouth.

8. Attach two hearts and two googly eyes to each panda face using Ultra Thin Glue Dots®. 

9. Add two paws to each invitation using Ultra Thin Glue Dots®.

10. Use Ultra-Thin Glue Dots® to attach the feet to the bottom of each invitation and then to the kraft cardstock.

11. Add ears to the panda faces with Ultra-Thin Glue Dots®. Attach panda faces to the kraft cardstock with Pop Up Glue Dots®.

12. Attach one pink bow to each panda face using Mini Glue Dots®.

13. Paint the distressed edges of each invitation with a black paint marker (less mess than a paint brush).

Christmas Gift Bag With Removable Scrapbook Layout

Have you ever thought about decorating a gift bag with a removable scrapbook layout? I sure did! Here's my tutorial:

Supplies:

Glue Dots® (Ultra Thin, Mini, Pop Up, Glue Lines, Removable)

star pins (Maya Road)

gift bag

FSC-Certified cardstock (black, yellow)

decorative cardstock (October Afternoon)

photo

Distrezz-it-All

black acrylic paint

paint brush

vintage ribbon

Petaloo flowers (large black, small green with red jewel)

buttons (red, green)

Stickles (Xmas Red, Holly, Black Diamond)

letter stickers (American Crafts Thickers)

hanger

Note: A red Petaloo flower was used for this project, but was painted black with acrylic paint and topped with black Stickles.

1. Cut, distress and paint edges of the yellow and decorative cardstock. Set aside to dry.

2. Attach buttons to hanger using Removable Glue Dots® and apply Stickles. Set aside to dry.

3. Distress the photo edges, mat with black cardstock using Ultra Thin Glue Dots® and distress the cardstock edges.

4. Use Ultra Thin Glue Dots® to attach two star pins to the top of the decorative cardstock and then adhere the yellow cardstock to the decorative cardstock.

5. Attach the matted photo to layout using Ultra Thin Glue Dots®.

6. Use Mini Glue Dots® to secure letter stickers to layout.

7. Apply Glue Dots Glue Lines® to layout and attach ribbon. Fold the ribbon edges and secure to back of yellow cardstock using Ultra Thin Glue Dots®.

8. Adhere buttons to layout using Ultra Thin Glue Dots®.

9. Use a Mini Glue Dot® to attach small Petaloo flower to the large one and attach to layout with a Pop Up Glue Dot®.

10. Tie ribbon to handle of gift bag.

11. Apply Removable Glue Dots® to the back of layout and attach to gift bag.

Notebook & Mini-Scrapbook Class Projects

WHAT: Let's Make Notebooks Class

Tutorial: Turn a Cereal Box into a Gift Box

Does this look like a cereal box to you? 

I certainly hope you said no. For my most recent craft tutorial, I decided to decorate a store brand cereal box as an elegantly upcycled gift box using scrapbook paper, Glue Dots© and a few other supplies. Here's how I made it...

Supplies:

Glue Dots© (Craft or Glue Lines)

cereal box

4 sheets of 12x12 decorative cardstock (Basic Grey*)

twine (Pink Paislee)

ribbon

coffee sleeve

scoring tool

hole punch

brown ink

stamp (Stampology "Billboard")

Distrezz-it-All

*Basic Grey is an EcoScrapbook Approved scrapbook company.

1. Cut the top flaps off the cereal box.
 

2. Measure the cereal box and score cardstock to fold around the corners of the box. Two sheets of cardstock will be needed to wrap around the box. Do not cut off excess cardstock.

3. Attach cardstock to the box using Glue Dots©. Cut excess cardstock at the corners and fold over the top of box.

4. Cut a piece of cardstock for the bottom of the box and attach with Glue Dots©.

5. Trim additional cardstock to wrap around the bottom half of the box and attach with Glue Dots©.

6. Wrap twine around the box and tie a bow.

7. Punch holes at the top of the box, two for the front and two for the back, insert ribbon and secure with knots to create two handles. Set aside.

8. Create a gift tag by cutting a coffee sleeve in half, distress the edges, punch holes at top for ribbon. Wrap twine around the tag and tie around the cereal box's handle, corrugated side out. Stamp a phrase onto an extra piece of cardstock and attach to tag with Glue Dots©. 

This project can be completed in less than an hour and is perfect for those occasions when you don't have a gift box on hand for a special event. It's also made from items that normally end up in the recycling bin and eco-friendly scrapbook paper.

I'm a Zutter Certified Instructor!

As I mentioned last week, I recently traveled to Chicago for a one-day course on the Zutter brand. The end result? A class of Zutter Certified Instructors and I'm one of them! That means I met some really cool and crafty people AND I'm starting to teach classes both on and offline.

Jennifer Priest, also known as Hydrangea Hippo, was our instructor and we focused our learning on the Bind-it-All:

I'm happy to have this pink book-binding tool in my arsenal and actually know how to use it. The Bind-it-All isn't just for books either. You can also make organizers, wall hangings and much more. There are plenty of ideas at the Bind-it-All blog and Zutter Zisters so be sure to check them out.

And if you know my scrapbooking style, you also know that I love to distress the edges of paper and photos. Say hello to my new favorite time-saver:

The Distrezz-it-All is powerful, loud and fun to use. I distressed an entire mini book in less than a minute! Oh, yeah, baby! I've been using this on everything (except fabric since that's a no-no).

And finally, meet the Round-it-All:

You may already have a corner rounder like the old Creative Memories favorite. This doesn't do just one page or one photo at a time. The Round-it-All can round the corners of a small stack of photos or paper and it's perfect for cardboard.

Now it's time to see what I made in class...

It took some muscles to punch through this textured canvas art board by Zutter, but the look is worth it.

Then we played with a cover-all and bound together cardboard, paper bags, tags, gift cards and paper (with rounded corners courtesy of the Round-it-All). The cover-all adds a nice touch and can turn an ordinary project into something more sophisticated.

My favorite cover used during the class was a simple corrugated cardboard. I'm looking forward to tearing off the top layer and decorating the cover.

Back at home, I had to reorganize my craft space in order to make room for my Zutter products. One thing that had been shuffled from one place to another over the years was a 2001 desk calendar. I had a light bulb moment and made a calendar journal with a cover.

And I finally made Girl Scout cookie box notebooks! I've been saving cookie boxes for over a year and cut them, along with notebook paper to fit, earlier in the summer. With the knowledge I learned at the Zutter course, I quickly punched, bound and distressed all these notebooks in one afternoon.

Then I had to get my "distrezz" on with a scrapbook layout:

I used textured 8.5x11 cardstock, blue cardstock from my scrap bin, October Afternoon* cardstock and sticker, Jillibean Soup* letter stickers, black ink, letter stamps, ribbon with a Cosmo Cricket* Gluber and one decorative pin. (Companies with * offer eco-friendly products and are EcoScrapbook Approved.)

Well, that about does it for my most recent projects. I'm now on the hunt to find local businesses to offer my services to, as well as developing classes with my own personal touch and finishing up the projects above. Stay tuned! ~Danielle
